This glass is ideal for full-bodied, powerful and/or developed wines, with its shape allowing the wine’s depth and intensity to shine through while still accentuating its underlying complexity and finesse. It can work for pretty much all Italian wines (although older Nebbiolo is often better in the ‘Burgundy’ glass), as well as all mature whites and reds from anywhere else. Mature Chablis, Riesling, Chianti, Beaujolais and pretty much any Australian wine, young or old, are good candidates. Also terrific for great grower Champagne. In simple terms this is Zalto’s Burgundy glass with no base. Instead, you have a sphere at the base of the stem and the glass rests on a small, flattened area on the side. In addition, it has a flat edge on the part of the bowl so that it can sit peacefully without fear it will roll off the table!  It was Shannon Bennett who originally alerted us to this stem’s existence. After encountering the Gravitas Omega in Europe, Shannon asked us to order some in for Vue de Monde. There is obviously something theatrical about the design. This then is for show, or for the person who already has all the other shapes!

New to the Zalto line, this hybrid carafe/decanter skilfully combines a slim silhouette with a longer neck and sees itself as the perfect addition to the existing range. Equally suitable for wine and non-alcoholic drinks, this carafe is perfectly balanced, and the longer neck makes it easier to pour at the table. Due to the tapering upwards and the narrow neck, it is also ideal for decanting sparkling wines. The ball “closure” rests on the rim to protect against external influences and capture the decanting effect and the aroma of the valuable content!
