If you think that brilliant Burgundy and bargain prices are a thing of the past, think again! Domaine Goisot is simply one of the great growers of Burgundy; they just happen to be based in the Yonne/Auxerre area, well and truly off the beaten track. These are not only wines to challenge the very best of neighbouring Chablis, but they also sit comfortably alongside the best of the Côte de Beaune. The Goisot family trace their origins in the Yonne (and specifically the village of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux) back to the 14th century. Here we are close to the Chablis border in the region known as Côtes d’Auxerre. Before phylloxera, wines from Auxerre were considered some of the finest in Burgundy, and sold at very high prices. The Goisot family’s wines show us why. Organic and biodynamic farming, certified by Ecocert and Demeter, sits at the heart of their approach. The grapes are rigorously sorted, then vinified in barrel or tank, depending on terroir and vine age. Pure and fleshy, with striking chalky minerality, these wines offer some of northern Burgundy’s most compelling value. Their reputation in France speaks volumes: the late Anne-Claude Leflaive described Goisot as “one of the superstars of French winemaking”, while La Revue du Vin de France places the domaine alongside some of Chablis’s finest estates. The latest releases have now arrived, offering a wonderful opportunity to explore the range, from vibrant Aligoté and mineral Saint-Bris Sauvignon Blanc to beautifully expressive Chardonnays.
