In a rare season of relative plenitude in Chablis, the entire Moreau-Naudet shipment to Australia was spoken for before it landed on these shores. It is both a testament to the quality and singularity of this grower's wines and a forewarning that any hesitation in responding to this offer will see you miss out! The late Stéphane Moreau was a devotee of Vincent Dauvissat, Didier Dagueneau and Nadi Foucault of Clos Rougeard, and this estate offers pretty much everything we at IFW yearn for in white Burgundy. It’s been wonderful to see what Virginie Moreau has achieved with this estate since her husband's sudden passing in 2016. Local restaurateurs and fellow producers openly praise her for her incredible resilience, brilliant wines and passionate commitment to her vineyards. More so even than her late husband, Virginie craves freshness and tension in her wines. The style is born of low yields, ripe fruit and intense, mineral freshness interwoven with pulpy and generous fruit. The vineyards are some of the most fastidiously tended in Chablis; the soils are ploughed and no weed killers, insecticides or chemical treatments are used. Virginie hand-harvests her vines slightly later than her neighbours to ensure perfect ripeness, never at the expense of exciting, nervy vitality. The results of the warm, dry, generous 2023 harvest at this address look remarkably similar to the lush, juicy, and complete renditions of the lauded ’22 vintage. The Petit and village Chablis we offer here are superb, and we urge you to move fast to get in on the action.
