First produced in 2009, Ponsot’s Corton-Charlemagne comes from two parcels in Aloxe-Corton: one on the Pernand border in Le Charlemagne and the second in Les Languettes. Les Languettes is a cool site wedged between Les Pougets and Le Corton. Positioned directly below the woods, this site is known for its intense expression of ‘white soil minerality’ or freshness. Le Charlemagne also sits high on the hill across the two parcels, where the vines average 40 years old. The wine matured in eight-year-old barrels for 16 months.

Reviews

“The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru had not completely finished its malolactic fermentation, with two barrels finished and two dragging their feet. It was unknown at the time of tasting whether it would undergo the full malo, so this could end up a little sharper than normal. With touches of beeswax and chai on the nose, this is nicely defined with good vigor—though of course, maybe more malic/appley than it will eventually become. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, fine tension and a touch of reduction on the finish. Part of me doesn't mind whether this goes through malo or not, as I like the tension and spiciness on the finish!”
