En Remilly is another of the Lamy benchmarks. Above the Côte de Beaune’s Grand Cru vineyards, it produces one of his finest and most sought-after wines. Olivier has two hectares in this vineyard (planted in 1989) across two distinct parcels just above the Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru. One of these parcels is quite near his Clos de la Chatenière vineyard and is a warmer terroir on a loosely knit mix of clay and limestone. The second is a far rockier site, on almost pure limestone, directly adjacent to Chevalier. This latter parcel brings a cutting tension to the former’s fleshy, layered fruit. This wine is not only a benchmark of Lamy (like the wines above and below) but a white Burgundy benchmark! Unfortunately, in 2021, the Remilly terroir was one of the most impacted by the frost in April: final yields barely reached 5 hectoliters per hectare—down 90% compared to a “normal” harvest! Even more frustrating when you know the amazing quality on offer – Grand Cru quality!

Reviews

“The 2021 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly sheds a touch of light reduction in the glass to exhibit aromas of green apple, white flowers, toasted nuts and gunflint. Medium-bodied, satiny and tangy, it unites a certain amplitude of sun-kissed fruit with electric acids and a saline finish. Remilly always exhibits the characteristics of a high-altitude, very stony site that's simultaneously very sunny, but the frost in 2021 has only heightened its internal contrasts.”
92 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“Extra aromatic complexity – the blend of citrus, flowers and minerality – super. Super juicy, complex too – mineral and delicious. This is open and finely complex. Lovely wine.”
