The chalky Chevalières lieu-dit sits high up on the slope—above the village, right next to Les Rougeots—and regularly makes wines that could easily justify a Premier Cru classification. In fact, Les Chevalières is an extension of the Premier Cru band across Meursault—with pretty much the same soils and altitude. As the slope steers around the village, the vineyards begin to turn eastwards, thus becoming cooler and rockier as they rise up towards Auxey-Duresses. We tasted this from tank and it was every bit as good as the note below suggests.
