This domaine has long produced a truly outstanding Fixin, from a tiny, 0.32-hectare parcel in Champs Pennebaut, a terroir located midway up the slope on the Marsannay side of the village. About a decade ago, the Mortet family also purchased a parcel of 60- to 70-year-old vines in the southern part of Fixin, on the border of the Gevrey AOC, in a vineyard called Les Champs de Charmes. Since 2014, this parcel has been part of the blend. Both sites have the Côte d’Or’s classic clay/limestone soils, although the northern soils are considerably darker.
Arnaud Mortet believes Fixin is totally underrated. Taste this, and you won’t have any trouble agreeing! Like Marsannay, it’s another appellation that can still be purchased at a reasonable price, although we wonder how long this will last. This is clearly one of the very finest examples from the village. Again, some 70% bunches were included (partly due to the tiny berries Mortet gets from these vines), and very little was used this year.
