Weil’s ‘villages’ level Riesling is a blend of first-picked parcels from the classified hillside estate sites of Klosterberg, Turmberg and Gräfenberg, as well as a measure of Wasseros fruit. As you would expect from such terroir, it is a step-up from the entry wine, with more texture, power and considerably more rocky, mineral intensity. Accordingly, one-third of the wine is raised in large Stockinger doppelstückfass (wooden cask) for six months.

Robert Weil Kiedricher Riesling Trocken 2022

Reviews

“This smells like a freshly prepared fruit salad, with some exotic-fruit notes alongside the citrus and stone fruit. On the medium-bodied palate there’s nothing superficial about this dry riesling, rather it shows excellent structure and wonderful texture. A touch of fine tannin neatly underlines the long, refined finish.”

“From younger vines in the three crus and from the Wasseros, so from a more skeletal soil, the 2022 Kiedricher Riesling Trocken opens with a pure, refined and slightly flinty bouquet with ripe, finely concentrated fruit that represents the warm and sunny vintage and the more rainy autumn. Elegant, refined and balanced on the palate, this is a substantial, well-structured and finely crunchy structured Kiedricher with elegant, dense and juicy fruit and an intense, warm and supple finish. 12.5% stated alcohol.”
90+ points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
“The 2022 Riesling Kiedricher is from two upper parcels in the of the Wasseros, above the Gräfenberg, which means rivulet, evident in small springs, fed by the forested top of the slope, also on mica schist. This is higher and cooler. One-third is made in wood and two-thirds in stainless steel, from ripe and super-clean fruit. The nose is aromatic, suggesting Reine Claude plum, white peach and green pear skin. Clarity also defines the palate where riper stone fruit shines, framed by grapefruit skin. This has serenity, tautness and substance, despite slenderness. Mouth-watering zestiness appears on the finish.”
