Ravensworth Regional Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre 2023

This is the follow-up to Bryan Martin’s excellent inaugural SGM, and it’s another Hilltops cracker. This year, Shiraz accounts for 60% of the blend, with the balance equal parts Grenache and Mourvèdre. Each parcel was vinified separately in small, open-top fermenters, using whole-berry fermentation and daily plunging. The wines were then pressed to 500-litre puncheons for 12 months’ maturation, followed by a second year in 100-litre foudres. One of Bryan’s preferred bistro reds is the Syrah-dominant Guigal Côtes du Rhône. With this new wine, Bryan has not merely emulated one of his go-to drinks; this is a home-grown no-brainer for the price—and with Ravensworth’s signature freshness and quality to boot.
