Made famous worldwide by the enigmatic Joško Gravner, Ribolla Gialla is responsible for some of Italy's rarest and most sought-after white wines. You won't find many plantings outside northeast Italy. But time in the region travelling, working, forming strong friendships and absorbing the wine culture meant it was long in the stars for the Quealy team to bring a slice of Italian inspiration home. In 2018, the first Ribolla vines went into Balnarring's organic soils.
Fully destemmed, the fruit was fermented in terracotta amphora and left on skins without any additions, before basket pressing with a touch of sulphur on September 1st. The wine was settled and racked with light lees into a single Slovenian oak demi-muid, where it matured for 36 months in total before racking and bottling soon after, in August 2026.
The vintage was a rinse and repeat of 2022: poor flowering in spring led to a dramatically reduced crop. But the wet spring gave way to a delightfully stable ripening season, allowing the fruit to develop at a steady rate with minimal disease pressure — building great flavour intensity and acute varietal distinction, arguably even more pronounced than the year before. An exceptional vintage!
