Organic. 2021 marks the third vintage of this certified organic Pinot Noir, sourced from Quealy’s Balnarring vineyard. Specifically, the grapes have come off the 1996 plantings—affectionately known as the ‘Carpark Block’—adjoining Seventeen Rows’ old vines. The name is a throwback to an earlier T’Gallant wine which Kevin calls “a nice piece of nonsense history”.

The aim here is to craft a delicious, earth-to-glass Pinot for early enjoyment. Hence, there’s a strong carbonic element, there was less time on skins, very little in the way of sulphur additions and the only oak the wine saw was puncheons upwards of five years old. The vines are the MV6 clone and trained as an arch cane to increase available sunshine to every part of the vine. This vineyard is dry-grown, something evident in the intensity of the wine.

Reviews

“Somewhat deceptive at first, appearing all light and bright with its pale ruby hue. Then it starts to build. Some meaty reduction adding savouriness, the palate expands to take in cherry flavours, oak spices, poached rhubarb with lemon juice and a compelling poppy fruit character a la carbonic maceration. Tannins feel lacy and fine yet in the background with acidity upfront and holding the fort. A lot to consider and such a delicious wine.”
