Place of Changing Winds vineyard is located between two mountains—Mount Macedon and Mount Bullengarook—hence the name of this cuvée. This wine ended up being around 1/3rd whole bunches and spent nineteen months maturing in Stockinger casks with no new oak. It’s a powerful Pinot, yet it still has great finesse and loads of upfront fruit. It will certainly drink well young, but we’re certain that it will age for a very long time, based on the balance and ample structure. It’s a blend of several parcels.

Reviews

“ Deep crimson-purple; it has an exotic perfumed bouquet, partly from the inclusion of one-third whole bunches, and partly from 18 months maturation in used Stockinger barrels. The power and length of the wine is extraordinary; the “drink to” date should be conservative.”
98 points, James Halliday, The Australian Weekend magazine
"Pale garnet. Recognisably vigorous Pinot on the nose. Sweet palate entry – quite a charmer. Some juicy fruit and light structure. It carries its alcohol well. In fact it tastes almost light-bodied. This tastes like a violet-scented, smooth Beaune to me. Not trying too hard. Lots of pleasure and great balance. And surprisingly lengthy.”

This 2021 Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir is more savory and herbal than the High Density wine. It leads with tobacco leaf, green tea, cut fennel, salted licorice, black cherry, pomegranate seed, Szechuan peppercorn and rose petals. On the palate, the wine is distinct; you get plumes of Boscobel rose, pink peppercorns, orange peel, nutmeg (perhaps from the oak?), myrrh, almond and even sandalwood. The texture of the wine is a highlight; it has proper, firm, albeit very fine tannins that hold the fruit in stasis in the mouth. It's almost a shame to have opened this bottle now, such is the potential enoki, bone broth and autumnal growth that will evolve over time. Going back to it again, there is something black (charcoal, graphite) that hovers over the fruit on the palate along with crushed rocks. Awesome. 13.7% alcohol, sealed under Diam and wax."
95+ points, Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate
