On the western hills above Neive, Albesani is one of Barbaresco's most revered vineyards. From very early days, the Massolino family bottled this cru separately for its finesse — a judgment echoed by Alessandro Masnaghetti's Barbaresco MGA, which calls out the combination of soil, stature and exposure in this vineyard as one of the greatest in the Langhe. Of the two hectares the family farms, only 0.6 hectares go into this bottling — the parcel at the top of the vineyard (260 metres), with the poorest blue marl soils and the oldest vines (50 years).

“One of two Barbaresco that Massolino has produced since the 2019 vintage, the Albesani comes from a 2ha southwest-facing plot of old vines. The 2023 was fermented at slightly lower temperatures than usual to preserve its fresh, fruity attributes. A gorgeous intensity of raspberry and pomegranate is nuanced by warm, sunbaked earth. The palate is further perfumed with violet and tobacco. Grainy, tactile but polished tannins start upfront, making a linear progression. Graceful rather than forceful in character, it's savoury and tangy to the finish, and almost ready to open.”
