Mietta is Lethbridge’s flagship Pinot Noir, drawn from the oldest MV6 plantings on the estate’s Geelong vineyard. These low-yielding vines provide the foundation for a wine of concentration and structure, with the emphasis firmly on the character of the estate fruit.
Whole-bunch fermentation is central to the wine’s identity, bringing aromatic lift and a savoury dimension to its fruit. The producer’s winemaking description records natural-yeast fermentation in small open vats, followed by pressing directly to French oak for maturation on gross lees and natural malolactic conversion.
The 2021 combines red and dark berry fruit with floral lift, earthy detail and spice. There is intensity here, but also restraint: the palate is finely textured, with a mineral thread and persistent, gently gripping tannins. It is a structured expression of Pinot Noir whose depth is carried by detail and tension rather than sheer weight.
