Monopole. Sitting above Les Bonnes Mares, Les Véroilles is the highest and coolest Premier Cru in Chambolle, and Ghislaine Barthod owns the entire parcel (0.37 hectares). Some of the vines sit on bare rock, which—irrespective of vintage—explains the incredible minerality and freshness of this cuvée. Of course, the altitude and proximity to the forest also contribute to the wine’s wildly aromatic, juicy persona. The vines now have an average age of 50 years, and in 2023 the generosity of the vintage has combined beautifully with the finesse of the terroir to produce a wine of tremendous finesse, seduction and perfume.

Reviews

“The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 1er Cru is quite backward on the nose, mainly featuring redcurrant and cranberry, with a hint of leather and dark chocolate loiter in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit. It has similar bone structure to the Fuées. This is tensile, with a dab of cracked black pepper toward the finish. With fine grip and tension, this is a wonderful Les Véroilles that should age gracefully in bottle.”
93-95 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
“A crimson colour of medium depth. While the nose is only just starting to build, this unique Véroilles 1er Cru is very complete with a lovely depth to the fruit, a seamless strawberry-raspberry with adequate tension and a long seductive finish. Three green harvests, July, August, September were needed here. They have paid off, witness the long, balanced aftertaste.”
92-95 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
