The 3.42-hectare 1er Cru Les Baudes sits just below the Grand Cru Les Bonnes Mares but has slightly richer, rockier red soil. The vines are now over 45 years of age. It’s always the most muscular wine produced by Barthod and generally requires the most time in the cellar. Some commentators consider it the most Morey of the Barthod wines, but we think it is more accurate to call it the most Bonnes Mares! Barthod farms just 0.19 hectares in the climat, making it one of the domaine’s rarest wines.

Reviews

“Taut and introspective but full of potential, Barthod's 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes unwinds in the glass with notes of red berries, plums, orange zest and peony. Medium to full-bodied, deep and mineral, with tangy acids and chalky structuring tannins, it concludes with a rose-inflected finish.”
94+ points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“Fine mid purple. The bouquet is superb, this feels like the perfect pitch of ripeness. The fruit is on the raspberry/cherry cusp with floral overtones. A thread of absolute purity with a very fresh finish. There are slightly firmer tannins accentuated by the acidity but well within bounds. Long perfumed finish.”
93-96 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
