Disgorged in October 2022. The sibling to the Angélique, the Ineffable is a Blanc de Noirs sourced from between four and eight sites in Verzy, depending on the year. In contrast to the Angélique, the sites for this wine are located in the second and third valleys, where the soils can have a heavier clay component but are still rich in the limestone and flint, so signature to the Verzy region. The Ineffable is 100% Pinot Noir and sees 60 months on lees in used French oak, with zero dosage.

The Ineffable is an attractively perfumed wine with enticing red fruits, wild florals and a vinous intensity. There’s a rocky minerality layered through the berry fruits and the acidity rockets through the palate with intent and vigour. The finish is chalky and perky, with great Pinot complexity priming for a second glass.

Reviews

"The 2017 Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs L'Ineffable is a powerful, expressive wine loaded with Pinot character. It emerges from blocks close to Verzenay, where Pinot Noir is so distinctive. Cherry, plum, white flowers, white pepper, mint and game confer tons of character. The structure of Pinot comes through on the finish, where the 2017 is quite ineffable. This is a fine effort for the year. No dosage. Disgorged: March 2023."
