It comes from a brilliantly located 0.16-hectare plot of 40-year-old vines right next to the Hospices de Beaune’s parcel and directly across the road, maybe fifteen metres away, from DRC’s parcel of Le Montrachet. It falls on the Chassagne side of the vineyard, for what it’s worth (which means nothing, to be frank, but we’re regularly asked so there you go). Leroux gained full control of the vineyard management here in 2016. He recently restored the original stone entrance along the road between le Montrachet and Bâtard, so it’s quite easy to find his plot if you’re ever driving. The 2024 is stunning. Tasted in November 2025 at the cellars, it was profoundly deep yet so restrained, with wonderful structure and freshness.

Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet 2024

Reviews

“Pale lemon and lime. This is a discreet Bâtard up front, then an oaky one in the middle, finally sublime one with a great deal of energy behind, and some fresh lime notes mixed in with golden fruit. Heading in a very good direction, by the time the elevage is finished. Stays in the mouth for quite some time. Drink from 2030-2038.”
94-96 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The 2024 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet, crushed stone infusing the malic aromas, just a hint of popcorn in the background. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, elegant in style, perhaps not quite as complex as the Corton Grandes Lolières but there is fine persistency.”
91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
