Half of Leroux’s 2018 Gevrey comes from 50-year-old vines in Les Seuvrées, bordering Morey-Saint-Denis, complemented by La Justice, Fournoux and fruit from the Brochon side of the appellation, including old vines in Les Jeunes Rois. Leroux considered bottling Jeunes Rois separately but retained it for the extra dimension it brings to one of his most important cuvées by volume. Harvesting in the Côte de Nuits began on 5 September, putting him among the early pickers. Each parcel was vinified separately, with 30% whole bunches, before maturation in 600-litre and 225-litre barrels, around 20% new, followed by racking into foudre. A carefully assembled villages Gevrey that draws depth and complexity from its contrasting sites.
