Blaufränkisch grown in a vineyard in the village of Höflein, approximately 12 kilometres west of Prellenkirchen. The vineyard is located just below the church on a soft, south-facing slope. The soils here consist of limestone with some layers of clay and loess. The fruit is fermented wild and macerated in large wooden vessels with no temperature control. Elevage is for 20 months and the wine is racked once before being bottled without filtration.

Reviews

“Hibiscus and pomegranate aromas pour from the glass of this juicy and silky blaufrankisch. An interesting touch of bitterness on the front palate, then healthy tannins rise up out of the succulence, functioning like an exclamation mark at the end of a long sentence. Drink or hold.”
93 points, jamessuckling.com
“Huge perfume, sour and maraschino cherry with preserved plum and liquorice in the mix. Fragrant as. The palate is lush, juicy, warmed cherry, tart elements, some liquorice and woody spices. Lovely, easy drinking style, fresh but also with depth. A delight.”
