Although it was purchased in 2003, Quealy’s home vineyard was initially planted in 1982, making this Balnarring vineyard one of Mornington’s oldest Pinot Noir sites. Just 17 rows of MV6 Pinot Noir from that era remain, lending their old-vine fruit to Quealy’s flagship Pinot Noir. The entire vineyard is on a gentle north-facing slope, on shallow loams over clay. These vines have been certified organic since 2019. The 2023 harvest was low-yielding and evenly ripened, expressing the potential of this site in full.

Reviews

"Medium-deep and bright ruby with a lot of purple in the meniscus; the bouquet is complex with five spice, charcuterie, dried-herb and dried cherry aromas. The palate follows on from the nose and has concentration and depth, impressive persistence and a harmonious structure of ample tannins. Both the oak and whole-bunch components are beautifully balanced and subtle. Still ascending and possibly even better in a year."
95 points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
"Of all the pinot noirs in the Quealy stable, this needs more time to find its groove. Don’t get me wrong, it’s humming a fine tune, but it’s so youthful and vibrant, showing off its heady aromas and cherry accents, root vegetables and cured meats. Time will allow more depth and calmness. The plentiful tannins and acidity will ensure a smooth, long ride. Totally understandable if you find this captivating now. I did."
95 points, Jane Faulkner, The Wine Companion
