The Millenovecento 48 Riserva comes from the Saffirio estate’s oldest vines. Planted in 1948, the east-facing vines sit in calcareous silt soils. The roots run deep, and yields are extremely low; only 2000 bottles were made in 2017. The exception to Saffirio’s short-maceration norm, Millenovecento spends 60 days on skins, developing deep colour and svelte, assertive structure. The wine then matures for two years in botti, followed by porcelain eggs for a neutral, no-oxidation final elévage.
