Chanterêves’ small parcel of Corton-Charlemagne sits above the village of Pernand-Vergelesses, on the mid-slope, facing west. The cooler aspect makes for slower ripening than in neighbouring plots that face south—an incidental advantage in these times of changing climate. The vines are farmed biodynamically and ploughed by horse. The longer hang time reinforces the fruit’s elegant nature, resulting in a Grand Cru of poise, great complexity and lithe structure.
“Sourced from 45 year old west-facing vines in En Charlemagne. Fuller yellow. This is quite reduced with some bacon fat showing as well. Good strong back bone to this, though the reductive character takes the lead at the moment. Grapefruit notes appear at the finish.” 91-94 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
