Beautiful Strangers is an aromatic orange, a blend of three varieties: Pinot Gris (53%), Gewürztraminer (39%) and Chardonnay (8%). All are from a sustainably farmed, dry-grown, single vineyard in Waiohinganga in the Esk Valley.
Handpicked Gewürztraminer was destemmed and naturally fermented as whole berries for 10 days with a small addition of Chardonnay juice. The Pinot Gris was whole-berry and whole-bunch fermented (50/50) and stayed on skins for 17 days. The portions were blended at the press and completed their co-fermentation in tank and old puncheon. The wine was then left to undergo natural malo and matured for 4 months. No fining or filtration, minimal sulphur additions.
