At 1.3 hectares, En La Barre is Jobard’s largest holding and is located just behind the cellar, abutting Lafon’s Clos de la Barre. The soils here have only around 40mm of topsoil with plenty of fragmented limestone, and the 40-year-old vine roots plunge directly into the mother rock. This richness of limestone is reaffirmed by the history of the site—there was once an old quarry here that was the material source for many of the houses in the neighbourhood. Jobard farms three parcels in En La Barre including one in the heart of the vineyard. This is perhaps the signature wine of the domaine and is always a great bottle.
