Vissoux Fleurie Poncie 2010

Stelvin. The Poncie plot is on a sharp southeast facing gradient overlooking the Fleurie vineyards. There are 4.5 hectares of Gamay on pink granite soils rich in mica and quartz. Vine age here is 45 years. The high altitude and south-easterly inclination of this site always encourages a sense of refreshment and energy in this cuvee, even in the warmer years. Elegant and floral, it's somehow both intense and lightheartedness, with flashes of rose, grenadine and framboise on the nose and palate. We love this wine. It's perfectly pitched. It's extremely pretty, tasty and pure though to be honest we're struggling to find the words. This video might help explain what we're getting at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdCY24b6gY8
"Bright, tart, focused, and energetic, the red fruit-filled Vissoux 2010 Fleurie Poncie reflects its outstanding location in an enhanced sense of stuffing and clean meaty depth not found in the wines of this collection that preceded it. Sour cherry; red and black raspberry; pungent herbs; and salted meat stock combine for a mouthwatering and tenaciously persistent performance that should be worth following for 4-5 years."
90 points, David Schildknecht, The Wine Advocate # 196, August 2011
