This 2005 Reserva is a complex, savoury, site-driven Rioja, that reveals Luis and Carmen's preference for subtle, elegant and super refined wines. The 2005 vintage was a very high quality one in Roja thanks to the exceptionally favourable weather throughout the season, particularly during the harvest, that allowed most of the grapes to ripen perfectly. It was a vintage that produced many dense, long lived wines. Luscious and textured, The Valenciso 2005 is also exceedingly fragrant and, with its extended rest in bottle, is drinking beautifully. The palate is delicious; it's succulent mulberry and blackberry fruit is backed up by an armed guard of minerality, soft tannins and refreshing acidity and you'll find plenty of mouth-watering savoury character to offset the dense, compact fruit. This already looks great at the table and, furthermore, it blossoms both in body and flavour with a short decant. (100% Tempranillo, 22 months in French oak)
