Valenciso's tiny white vineyard is planted to two-thirds Viura and one third Garnacha Blanca that yields roughly 1000 bottles per year. The wine - whose tight, mouth-watering structure and clarity of fruit puts it very much at odds with the region's traditional white wine output - is fermented and briefly aged sur lie in Russian (Caucasian) oak barrels. This delicate oak very subtlety accompanies the succulent fruit without taking over. If you like tangy and racy whites with tons of pulpy texture this will be hard to beat. It has brilliant, clear-cut aromatics and flavours that include juicy apple notes, white flowers, fresh pear and a dollop of lanolin. The texture and flow across the palate is as surprising as it is delicious with a refreshing acidity and some powdery grip. It's white Rioja, Stu, but not as we know it.
