You may well look at the price of this wine and conclude that it can't be much good. Well, you'd be wrong. It's a terrific wine, dripping with lively, juicy, fruit and a wonderful purity for this price level. It's probably the most 'southern' of Klein's 2010s, yet it is still bright and fresh and scrumptious. The packaging is pretty funky too. This was the wine that was formerly labelled as Côte Levant. In its first foray as 'Un Air', Grenache and Syrah are joined by some old vine Mourvèdre, but it is still the tangy raspberry/dark cherry and spiced Grenache fruit that is to the fore. The grapes were picked by hand, sorted, and then de-stemmed. Then the wine spent eight months in concrete tanks with no fining and only a light filtration prior to bottling. The nose brims with bright red berries, lifted spice and anise - racy but also delicate. It's lovely in the mouth, oozing very pristine cherry and mineral notes, cutting through from the Grenache. There's a long, spicy finish with lots to keep you interested. It demands a second, third and fourth glass. All up, embarrassingly good Côtes du Rhône at a brilliant price for the quality. Do not hesitate or you will miss out on one of the best wine bargains of the year.
