Lafaurie Peyraguey Sauternes 2005

Lafaurie Peyraguey is still owned by the now somewhat diminished Domaines Cordier. It has ranked amongst the finest Sauternes since the 1983 vintage but in 2005 it was one of the super stars. The 41 hectare gravel vignoble is planted to 90% Semillon. Our friend Bill Blatch reports; "Lafaurie Peyraguey had a very successful harvest with an enormous 2nd 'trie' of fully botrytised Sémillons composing most of the blend."
"A return to top form for this great cru. The nose is very perfumed and unctuous. The wine has great richness and beautiful concentration; not quite finished but the potential shines through."
David Peppercorn Decanter; 5 Star Decanter Award.
"Very big and bold and massive. In retreat. Chewy finish but very long. This should emerge to be something exciting but at the moment is very inexpressive". 16.5+/20 Drink 2014-30 JancisRobinson.com 20/02/09
Rob's Note: 4/5 "Rich and powerful yet balanced and finishing fresh. Baked apple and honey notes pleasantly remind of the Loire. Nice clean, medium intensity finish."
