"The wines of Jo Landron are now the reference in the – too small – genre of terroir driven Muscadet."
La Revue du Vin de France
At last we have a producer that is challenging the great Guy Bossard (in fact Jo Landron is a close friend of Guy’s) for quality and interest in Muscadet. Perhaps it surprises you to read words like “quality & interest” associated with Muscadet? Isn’t Muscadet supposed to be neutral, low quality white that’s only good for oysters? You clearly have not tasted the wines of Guy Bossard or Jo Landron. These are fabulously interesting whites to compare well with the best Loire although in style I am always reminded of the best Italian, or even Alsace. These are intensely tangy, citrussy whites with lots of mineral aromas and flavours: chalk, earth, ferrous notes along with a sappy, resinous edge that adds further complexity and makes them devilishly morish. Jo Landron is today one of the few benchmark producers of Muscadet. He has been organic since 1999 and is now on his way to being certified biodynamic. He uses no chemicals of any kind in the vines, ploughs the earth, harvests by hand, and his ferments occur naturally with no yeast or enzyme additions. In other words the practises here (and chez Bossard) are the opposite of what occurs throughout the majority of the region. In summary: These are some of the best value whites we can offer from Europe. Buy them by the case for drinking over the warmer months.
