Bodegas Callejo has rolled out some major rebranding of late and it's great to report that the new labels finally do justice to the quality in their bottles. The 'Flores de Callejo' replaces the previously name '6 Meses' and it's a much more apt name and label for the budding flower in the Callejo stable. From the 'muy excellente' 2010 vintage the inaugural Flores is as juicy and vivacious and terroir-branded as Tempranillo at this price point can get. As you can read below, the winemaking is remarkably artisanal for a 10,000 case botting. In short this is a must try for those seeking a delicious, authentic Tempranillo by the glass: it's a juicy, succulent, meaty, earthy mesh of wild fruit, fresh, high-grown tannin and mouth cleansing acidity. The best entry level Temp Callejo have released.

All the fruit is hand-picked and transferred to the cellars in small crates, followed by a careful sorting of bunches and berries on a double sorting table. The bunches were de-stemmed and the berries put into fermentation vats whole, without crushing, and left for a cold soak at 10ºC. The alcoholic fermentation started naturally with the skins' indigenous yeasts around the fifth day in vat. After the alcoholic fermentation had finished, the skins were left in contact with the new wine for 3 days. The wine was then run off into another vat for the malo-lactic fermentation, which was allowed to occur spontaneously.
