It is extremely rare that an excellent source of Puligny-Montrachet appears on the scene, but that is what happened when Marc and Alexandre Bachelet formed Domaine Bachelet Monnot in 2005. Since the release of their first set of wines a few years back, the Bachelet brothers have been increasingly on the lips of friends of ours in Burgundy whose opinion we hold in high regard. Suitably motivated, we recently made a visit to their Domaine in the unattractively named but stunningly beautiful commune of Dezize-lès-Maranges (at the southernmost tip of the Côte de Beaune).
A tasting through the range quickly showed two things: firstly, the sheer quality of the sites that the brothers work with, 10 hectares in all, including Puligny village, 1er cru and Bâtard...
