* Producteur de vins de haute qualité
LE CLASSEMENT 2005, Bettane & Desseauve
Even though Alain Graillot has been making wine in this region for two decades, he has quickly established a reputation as the rising star of the appellation. His savvy winemaking has also helped the once flagging reputation of Crozes-Hermitage (sometimes called 'junior Hermitage') by lifting quality standards across the board. While vineyard placement is imperative to wine quality in the region, Graillot is adamant terroir and low yields also play a pivotal part in producing his ultra-elegant 100% syrah from the estate's 17 hectares. Graillot is also without doubt one of the most successful producers of white Crozes-Hermitage (marsanne 80% and roussanne 20%) made from just three hectares.
Le Classement 2005, Bettane & Desseauve
"Located in the heart of the alluvial plain of the Roche de Glun, this estate produces fine red wines, most of which have better structure than most traditional Crozes-Hermitage."
Robert Parker, Parker's Wine Buying Guide, 6th edition
"Alain Graillot consistently produces one of the classic examples of Crozes-Hermitage."
The Wine Spectator
"Though Hermitage is still king of the northern Rhone appellations, the larger, more heterogeneous Crozes-Hermitage is the region's rising star, thanks to topflight winemakers like Alain Graillot. A relative newcomer to the region, in the space of 20 years Alain Graillot has established a reputation for making his Crozes-Hermitage the most sought after of the appellation. In spite of only 20 hectares of vineyards, his wines are sold world wide on an allocation basis only. They are a special favourite with the most prestigious restaurants in France and elsewhere. Alain has a passion for the Syrah grape from which he makes hand crafted wines of great distinction and enormous elegance."
Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
"Very consistent producer."
